Her desperate yet subtle attempts for relief cause her world to collide with that of the intriguing and devastatingly handsome woodcarver. Edward is desperately trying to restore his family’s good name and earn enough wages to pull his family out of financial destitution, and the fascinating Marianne could endanger it all. A controlling father, rigid social expectations, a family caught in the middle, and a love that is anything but convenient make this story impossible to set down. Lovely characters drew me in and had me cheering the whole way through, and the voices from each point of view were delightful, especially Marianne’s. Her bright perspective and the innocent wonder of her observations made her absolutely endearing and gave the story just the right amount of humor. I am sad to have finished it so quickly, but I can whole-heartedly recommend this delightful novel!🌟🌟🌟🌟 and 👍🏻👍🏻 Bashful in the sense that Marianne, Miss Coventry, sneaks peeks at the broad shouldered wood carver her father has hired.Tasked with carving bookshelves for the Coventry family, Mr. Steele is determined to focus on replenishing his dwindling, albeit empty, pockets. That of seeing her sister Beatrice married off so she can finally have her own chance out in society.Things do not go according to plan for either of these two lovable characters. Each in pursuit of their own agenda they come together and realize they can’t have it all…or can they?I have happily spent many hours (more than I will admit) reading all of Deborah’s charmingly sweet regency novels.
